What is Radon?

41aceb35-8e67-49e8-88d5-241538683b10Radon is a radioactive gas that has been found in homes all over the U.S. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water and gets into the air you breathe. You can’t see, smell or taste it!

Why should I consider a Radon Test?

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Surgeon General recommends testing of all homes below the 3rd floor for radon. Radon is a class A carcinogen and is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The EPA recommends mitigation of radon levels at or above 4.0 pCi/L. Any home can have a radon problem! This means new and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements.

 How it enters the home

Air pressure inside the home is usually lower than pressure in the soil around the foundation and floor. Due to the difference in air pressure, the house acts like a vacuum drawing the radon in through the foundation and floor cracks and other openings.
